In a world without social unity, DISENFRANCHISED follows a group of outcasts, who, faced with the closing of their sole hangout, a local McDonalds near their housing estate, team up and take action against mighty enemies. Led by Jamal, a 25 year old English of Jamaican descent and convicted former drug dealer, they illegally occupy the branch and start a soup kitchen for their community. A big risk for charming beguiler Jamal, who must fulfill strict requirements in order to regain custody of his daughter. Comical, ideological, racial and generational conflicts within the group complicate the organization of their project. After initial success, Jamal’s past catches up with him in the form of a ruthless drug dealer who bribes him to use his soup kitchen as a trading place. The biggest fight they have to face, however, is when McDonald’s demands the evacuation of the branch… An uplifting tale about little giants, spiced up with crime, humor and love, leading through all layers of society. Based on a true story that could only possibly be written by life itself.

Das Drehbuch zum Kinofilm MARIA wird von der österreichischen Produktionsfirma coop99 und der deutschen Produktionsfirma Walker+Worm Film betreut und wurde heuer vom ÖFI gefördert. ZDF „Kleines Fernsehspiel“ ist ebenfalls dabei.
